Finally! This is the content I started out with for the idea of an episode on the Campbells. In this episode, I try to untangle the major branches of the Campbell clan, and by major, I mean these branches: MacArthur of Strachur, Craignish, Loudon, Auchenbreck, Glenorchy, and Cawdor. I apologize if you have a particular branch that I didn't include but there are so many that if I tried to get to them all, I would never finish. I outline the main line of the Argyll Campbells then try to explain where these branches tie in. I also make a short mention of the MacConnochie and Ardkinglas branches. This episode is also available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

You probably know the Glencoe Massacre was not part of Clan war between the Campbells and MacDonald’s. it was initiated by King William III as punishment for the MacDonalds being late signing an oath of allegiance to the King. If I’m not mistaken of the 120 soldiers at Glencoe, only 6 were Campbells. The MacDonalds had looted Glenlyon the year before, stealing all of the livestock. Historically the Mcgregors and Sinclairs had far more reason to dislike the Campbells of Glenlyon. At Lord Mars Revolt in 1714, and again at Culloden in 1746, the Campbells of Glenlyon fought alongside the MacDonalds, taking up the Jacobite cause against their English oppressors.

OK this is getting silly. Sorry once again. The Campbell DNA Project associated with Familytreedna. Has more than 100 separate groups of of Campbells not genetically related to each other in any significant time frame. I suppose there are many reasons for this. I have extensively researched my family tree with documented proof going back 300 years. There is much evidence from there connecting back to the Campbells of Glenorchy. I live in Campbell River Canada. My name is Glenlyon Campbell.
